When I got my start in predicting elections

In 1979 my father started having betting pools among the family - we all put in our prediction and $1.   I was 13 at the time.  We had a provincial election and two federal elections within a year.   Being young, and it being more than 30 years ago, the pot was good enough that I wanted to win it.  With three elections so closely together I caught the bug of predicting elections.

I quickly learned that more information meant I could come closer to the right result, so as a young teen I was pouring over past election results.

I still think my best moment was in April 1999 predicting the May 2001 election to within two seats.
