First off, Christy Clark increased the Liberal margin of victory. It was clear that when the advance votes were counted that the BC Liberals were well organized on the ground in the riding and got their vote out.
Second, the turnout was good, I expect that once the final count is over about 20,000 people will have voted, more than in 2009. I had not expected to see this high a vote turn out in the by-election, this would the best voter turnout in a by-election compared to the previous general election in decades.
You can compare the by-election results with the two previous general elections in this table

Final count for the by-election will start on July 17th. Somewhere between 2,500 and 3,000 special ballots will be counted then.
I am amazed the NDP could not manage to improve on their May results.
The BC Conservatives I think can be put out to pasture. Given the chance to marshal all their resources in the Okanagan into one race and a leader with 24/7 free time, it is amazing the party did so badly. I really have to wonder what is going to happen with them now.
